As MSPs, many of us will experience several ups, downs, and challenges in our lives. During times of stress, it can feel as if we are being bombarded from practically every angle, and it can be so easy to feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and paralyzed with indecision and fear. When you encounter these times in your life, you may feel tempted to throw in the towel and give up on your goals and dreams. Resist the urge to give in and persevere!
I myself am not immune to these thoughts and feelings of self-doubt. Recently, I was co-teaching the CPMSM Exam Prep Course in Orlando, and I encountered plenty of unexpected obstacles along the way that made me want to give up. My flight to Orlando was first delayed due to a power outage and later rerouted 3 different times, leaving me awake and navigating through various airlines and terminals for over 24 hours. On top of all of that, my luggage was lost and took several days to reach me. Through these days of little sleep and hyper-vigilance, there were many times that I wanted to turn around and head home. Instead, I picked myself back up, pooled together my strength and confidence, and showed up to the conference. I chose to persevere so that I could give my audience and students the very best that I had to offer by way of my knowledge, experience, humor, and compassion. This sole desire acted as my motivator to help me endure and reach my goal.
MSPs, no one is immune to these moments of self-doubt and fear. I know that you have pressures coming from various directions, including your boss, staff, organization, and even your personal life. That’s why I’m here to tell you that you are definitely stronger than you think you are! When you encounter these trying times, remember that your goals and dreams are worth your every effort. Even if you think that you aren’t making any progress, gather your courage, face your fears and your frustrations, and choose to persevere!
Remember, achieving your goals always comes with some degree of sacrifice. Just remember that these obstacles and stressors are temporary. If you find that you are a bit short on strength and feel that you can’t get through your darkest moments, take a moment to look at yourself in the mirror, indulge in positive self-talk for encouragement, SMILE, and you will achieve your goals!
