If you know me at all, you probably know that one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies is the classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Watching this movie always gets me into the Christmas spirit, and it also reminds me of the quiet yet deep impact that we make on the lives of others around us.
We as MSPs go through our everyday lives and carry out our tasks, not really considering what our contributions do to our society, community, industry, colleagues, friends, and family. We’re so involved in taking care of others, meeting deadlines, providing key support to administrators and Medical Staff Leaders, mentoring others, and caring so much about doing our job with quality that we don’t realize the great positive impact we have on others around us. At this time of the year, it’s important to take a step back and really see how we affect the people in our lives. Even Clarence, the angel from “It’s a Wonderful Life,” says so himself: “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”
Even though we may feel as if we’re standing in a big open field all alone, we are surrounded by wonderful people who make such a positive difference on our journey. We, too, are making a huge difference in the world around us! We are giving our special talents and gifts to one another. And yes, we all have gifts – sometimes, we just need someone to point them out to us.
I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a holiday season that brings you peace and joy into the New Year. I am honored and grateful to have you all in my life, too – you make a difference in my life as well! Keep SMILING, MSPs!
