Each workplace has its ups and downs, and MSPs are no stranger to this fact. While it may be true that MSPs and other staff in the hospital are working harmoniously together to solve their problems and protect the patient’s safety, there will always be some form of disruptive behavior, which can negatively impact patient care, employee satisfaction, and overall morale.
Think about it for a moment. You know an excellent surgeon with fabulous technical skills who possesses a depth of knowledge and has a great bedside manner. Yet, when the unexpected occurs, perhaps the surgeon overreacts, which creates an even greater stress than the event itself.
Of course, we all have bad days now and again. After all, we’re only human! However, it’s imperative that we as MSPs keep our cool and handle every stressful situation with as much grace as we can muster. Keeping cool under pressure will not only benefit us in many ways, but it will also help keep those around you positive and can ultimately lead to future rewards.
There is incredible and absolute power in positive thinking. As an MSP, you already work in a stressful environment that includes large workloads and demanding deadlines. When equipped with a positive, can-do attitude, you can most certainly adapt to any situation and let your competencies shine! If you happen to notice that positive attitudes aren’t very prevalent where you are at the moment, don’t be afraid to step out and be different. After all, you don’t have to hold a high position on the ladder in order to be a leader!
