Happy New Year to you, my wonderful MSP! It’s a new year, which means that it’s a brand new opportunity to revitalize yourself and renew your goals. Maybe it’s the year that you will take charge of your health. Perhaps this year is the year in which you further your education or recommit to your career. No matter what your goal is, this is the magical time of the year in which possibility permeates the air and fills your lungs with determination and perseverance.
If you don’t really believe in setting New Year’s resolutions or goals in general, consider this. It is essential for the happiness and betterment of every living being to set goals in his or her life. That’s right –it is ESSENTIAL. Setting goals reinforces your purpose to keep working toward an accomplishment, gives you a greater sense of satisfaction, and keeps you motivated. If you use the mindset of setting goals for yourself, this year could really be a game-changer for you because you will be driving what happens to you professionally instead of being dependent on your employer. You will be in awe of the great sense of empowerment you will feel when you do this!
I want to share with you the 5 goals that I have established for myself for 2014. I think these are worthwhile goals for all of us to strive toward:
1. I am ready for every opportunity – career readiness is the key!
2. I will revise my resume and put my showcase achievements at the top.
3. I will push myself outside of my comfort zone.
4. I will get out and interact with others.
5. I will invest in my education.
If you feel overwhelmed by this list of goals, it’s okay if you just select one and chase after that goal with all of your heart. You’ll be surprised at how accomplished you will feel when you get to the finish line. You never know – it might even give you the courage and inspiration to continue pursuing the other goals!
So how do you begin being a more awesome version of yourself in 2014? First of all, you must set at least one goal. That goal can apply to education, your job, your skillset, your personal life, or anything else that is important to you. Just set a goal!
Next, put together a vision board for your goals. We are very visual creatures, and sometimes seeing what we want to achieve in our lives can give us the boost we need to hang in there and accomplish our goals! Put together pictures of a thinner you and put it on your fridge if you want to lose weight. Put a photo of the destination you’ve been dreaming of visiting this year in your wallet so you will want to spend less money. Stick inspirational quotes around your workspace so you can maintain that positive attitude and be a better MSP. Keep your goals visual with a vision board, and you’re sure to succeed!
This year, I challenge you to take a big courageous step outside your comfort zone and set out to be a more awesome version of yourself. Be prepared for hardships, challenges, and temptations that may persuade you into sliding back into your old habits if you want to change. Remember, nothing worth achieving comes easily, but with a positive mindset and a vision of what you want to see for yourself in 2014, this CAN be the year that changes your life for the better!
